  • How to ollie - of course, you should probably know how to do this before you try and learn to ollie off curbs! (You can also read some step-by-step how to ollie instructions) You don't need to have super high ollies, but you do need to confident in how to ollie, and how to land well.

Once you are ready, the only other thing you need is a curb to ollie off of! Pick one with a good flat area running up to it, and with a clear space running after it. Make sure to clear away rocks, sand or garbage, and make sure that traffic is clear.
Read through these instructions a few times, make sure you have a good mental picture of what's going to happen, and then get out and ollie off of a curb on your skateboard!

Get on your skateboard, and get a good speed going towards the curb. You want to be going a comfortable speed, but still fast enough to clear the curb.
As you approach the curb, bend your knees and get ready to ollie. Right as your front trucks go over the edge of the curb, pop your tail.

For this to work, you need to have most of your weight on your back foot before you get to the edge. Not all of your weight, but enough so that right as the front truck goes over the edge of the curb, you can pop the tail and ollie.

Timing is the key to this whole thing. If you pop too late, you're going to pitch over the curb and bail. If you pop too early, you won't have enough speed to clear your entire board over the edge.

After you pop the board, pull your knees up high. Pull then up to your chest, and make sure you get a good high ollie off of the curb.

As you come down off of the curb, extend your legs and keep control of the board. Try to land all four wheels of the board at the same time.

As you land, compress your knees and legs deeply. This will absorb the shock of landing, it will help you keep control, and it will look pretty cool too.

Try to keep your weight even between your two trucks as you land. This will help with balance.

And that's how to ollie off of a curb!

Make sure these instructions make sense, and keep practicing!

Once you've mastered this trick, you can move on to ollying off of ramps, or even ollying off of stairs!
