Using Lists for better Attention and Focus

Attention disorders have become somewhat of a pandemic in our societies. With doctors diagnosing and medicating left and right, it's no wonder we can focus long enough to drive from A to B! Much of the attention problems our society faces are in fact normal, and grow worse with the maintenance of poor focusing habits. There are several ways to naturally focus better and become more productive.

Lists are one of these ways to become a better worker and maintain better focus. When you are working and have several things going on it becomes a risk to deviate from your original plan and take up an entirely new task. Sometimes, several tasks at once. Many gloat about such abilities and call it multitasking. However, there are very few, if any, people who can successfully multitask and save time by doing that way.

Multitasking is a problem because when alternating from one task to another, there is a lot of time spent in between the tasks while the mind attempts to adjust. Focusing on one task is a more effective method to get work done faster.

There are times when multitasking is necessary, however, and lists can help someone maintain that focus. Begin by creating a list with all of the pertinent tasks. Then, write down numbers next to each task, one being for the most important, two being for second most important, and so on. Estimate if you are not sure. Finally, after you number each item, focus on that one item until it is done, and then with great satisfaction, cross that item off with a thick red marker when you complete it. Simply move on to the next task until you are done with the list.

Remember to keep that list nearby as a reference and check back with it often until all items are completed. By doing this, you will gain more focus and attention disciplinary skills, and life will become so much more organized and pleasant!
