How to Use Epoxy Resin Molds for Jewelry
- 1). Read the directions on your resin kit carefully. Every resin type and brand contains different directions. If you miss a step in resin casting, your work will end up sticky and ruined. Work with resin in a well-ventilated area.
- 2). Put on plastic gloves and measure out the appropriate amount of resin into a medicine cup. Measure the activator into a second cup; use the ratio on your kit to determine how much of each you need. For instance, a 3-to-1 ratio may require 3 tsp. of resin to 1 tsp. of activator.
- 3). Pour the activator into the resin. Stir gently and carefully with a wooden Popsicle stick.
- 4). Spray a light mist of cooking spray into plastic molds and rub the oil over the inside of the mold with your finger. Silicone molds are flexible and don't require cooking spray.
- 5). Pour resin into the molds. Allow the resin to cure for about 48 hours in a warm, sunny area. When ready to release, flip the mold over and press your thumbs against each mold shape. The resin pieces should pop out easily. If they don't, gently tap on the mold shapes and try pushing again. This should loosen the resin.
