How to Use a Two-Channel Amp for Four Speakers
- 1). Disconnect the power from the amplifier.
- 2). Insert the first speaker wire designated as positive into the positive terminal of the left channel on the amplifier. Installers can designate any wire they want as positive, although the red wire is normally positive and the black wire is normally negative. Speaker wire is actually two wires, a positive and a negative wire housed together. Each channel has a positive and negative terminal.
- 3). Insert a second speaker wire designated as positive into the positive terminal of the left channel on the amplifier.
- 4). Insert the first speaker wire designated as negative into the negative terminal of the left channel on the amplifier.
- 5). Insert the second speaker wire designated as negative into the negative terminal of the left channel on the amplifier.
- 6). Repeat Steps 1 through 4 with the right channel and additional wires. This will result in two left channel speaker wires and two right channel speaker wires.
- 7). Run each speaker wire to a speaker. Connect the positive wires to the positive power terminals on the speaker. Connect the negative speaker wires to the negative power terminals on the speaker. Do this for each speaker.
- 8). Reconnect the amplifier's power. Turn on the amplifier and test the speakers.
