How to Lay a Carpet Seam

    • 1). Clean the flooring. Sweep up any dirt or debris. Unroll your carpet and allow for the carpet fibers to expand for an hour before installing.

    • 2). Place double sided tape around the parameters of the room. Leave the protective paper on top of the tape, so you can center the carpet. Allow the carpet to curl up 6 inches up the walls.

    • 3). Press the carpet down to where the floor meets the wall. Use a utility knife to cut vertical cuts into the carpet. Move all around the wall. Overlap the carpet by 2 inches to create a seam.

    • 4). Cut through both pieces. Make sure that they butt up against each other. Remove the paper off the double sided tape. Roll a carpet roller over the carpet to attach the carpet to the adhesive.

    • 5). Apply seam adhesive to the seams. Butt the seams together and roll the carpet roller over the seams. Tuck the carpet underneath the wall.
