    • 1). Get up to a smooth, brisk but manageable speed with any technique you prefer. Generally, pushing off the inside of your skates (with toes pointing outward) is the most effective way to get up to speed.

    • 2). Stride forward with your right foot at an angle slightly to the left of center.

    • 3). Maintain an angle pointing slightly leftward with your skate, and allow your body weight to tilt forward and to the right. Push off the outside of your right foot to propel yourself forward. At the same time, kick your left foot back and to the right behind your right leg.

    • 4). Turn your right foot back to the right before your weight shifts too far to control, pointing your right foot back to the right to catch up with your body.

    • 5). Swing your left foot back around from behind your right leg while giving another push with your right foot, this time with the inside of your skate.

    • 6). Stride forward with your left foot, making contact with the ground surface equal with your right foot. Point your left foot in an angle slightly left of center as you raise your right foot off the ground.

    • 7). Repeat the same steps with your left foot as with your right, also kicking your right foot back and over behind your left leg. Continue the strides in a comfortable rhythm.
