    • 1). Place the left and right front speakers on each side of the AV receiver between three and 10 feet apart. Set the center speaker above the AV receiver and the two rear speakers behind your seating area in the room.

    • 2). Unspool and cut a length of speaker wire to connect each Yamaha speaker to the AV receiver. Remove 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of every wire.

    • 3). Push down on the two plastic tabs on the back of the left front speaker to open a pair of holes under the positive and negative terminals. Insert the colored speaker wire into the positive terminal hole and the plain wire into the negative hole. Release the plastic tabs to secure the wires.

    • 4). Connect the other end of the wire to the AV receiver terminals labeled for the left front speaker. Connect the positive wire from the speaker to the positive terminal on the receiver.

    • 5). Hook up the center, right front, right rear and left rear speakers to the AV receiver, one at a time, in the same way. By working clockwise around the room, you can avoid hooking up a speaker wire to the wrong set of terminals on your receiver, which will throw off the surround sound effect.
