Children's Xmas Mobile Ideas
- The child should cut out a Christmas tree shape from green construction paper with the help of an adult if necessary. This shape can be a simple triangle or a more complex Christmas tree shape. Then cut the shape into strips, keeping the strips in the proper order. Decorate the strips with glitter, markers or other art supplies. Join each strip of paper together using tape and yarn. Attach a small rectangle of brown paper at the bottom as the trunk of the tree. Hang the tree from the ceiling so it is free to spin.
- This mobile requires four paper snowflakes to be cut. Fold a piece of paper in half lengthwise and then widthwise, creating a smaller rectangle. Fold the bottom right corner up and across to the left edge of the rectangle to create a triangle. Cut off the excess. Cut shapes into the edges of the triangle, leaving the bottom point intact. When the paper is opened, you will find a snowflake shape. Paint a glue/water mixture onto the snowflake and spread glitter. Do the other side when the glue dries. Paint two Popsicle sticks white, and apply glitter while the paint is still wet. Glue these Popsicle sticks together in the shape of an 'X' and tie a ribbon around the center to create a hanger. Tie each snowflake to the four ends of the Popsicle sticks. Use varying lengths of string or yarn.
- For this mobile, cut star shapes from construction paper or thicker card stock. Any color will work. Decorate these stars with markers, crayons, glitter, stickers and other craft items. Wind red and white ribbon around the base of a wooden or plastic clothes hanger to create a candy-cane effect. Tie four pieces of green yarn from various spots along the clothes hanger. Punch holes into the tops of the stars, and tie the stars to the other end of each piece of yarn. You can laminate the paper stars after they are decorated, before they are hung.
- Choose the Christmas shapes you would like to use for the mobile from a selection of Christmas cookie cutters. Use the cookie cutters to trace the shapes onto construction paper to be cut out for the mobile. Decorate the shapes before putting the mobile together. Punch a hole in the top of each shape, and tie thread to each shape. Take a paper plate and cut the plate, starting at the outside and cutting around, to create a spiral shape. Leave a circle in the middle. Punch a hole in the middle for hanging and holes at other intervals along the spiral until there are enough holes for each shape. Tie the threads through the holes to create a Christmas mobile.
