How to Make Your Own ETF
- 1). Decide what kind of ETF you want to create. Some websites provide information that can help you decide. The website iShares, for example, has a very large selection of ETFs, and eight kinds of ETFs are on its homepage, which is linked in the Resources section.
- 2). Determine the category of your ETF. Go to iShares' homepage, which is linked in Resources, and click on the type of ETF you created. This will provide you with the categories of that type. For instance, you may choose Large Cap or Small Cap under the US Market Cap/Style listing.
- 3). Find the index you would like to follow. If you use iShares, click on the ETF's profile page, and look up the top 10 holdings. Use those top 10 holdings as the holdings for your ETF.
- 4). Rerun your screen or recheck the top 10 holdings at the end of each month, and re-balance your portfolio accordingly.
