Planning a family holiday

Spring is in the air and it's about time to start thinking about planning your family holiday for this year. As a parent I know first-hand that the combination of travelling and children is a highly stressful combination. But please don't let this put you off, a great family holiday can be highly rewarding and can bring you closer together as a family. There is one type of holiday that will easily solve your family holiday dilemma, a safari holiday.

A safari holiday is an excellent family vacation and allows you and your family to experience nature and wildlife like you've never experienced before. You and your family could go gorilla trekking in the Ugandan rainforest, or visit Tanzania to follow the world's greatest animal show – the great migration, which is when over two million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle move across the Serengeti plains in a cycle, in search of fresh grazing pastures. Or why not track down the big five (lion, rhino, elephant, buffalo and leopard) in the world famous Masai Mara safari park in Kenya.

For those families who have never been on a safari holiday before, a great place to start is Tanzania. With a popular safari being a balloon safari, it's an incredible way for a family to get a bird's eye view of Tanzania's incredible array of wildlife. One of the main reasons for Tanzania being such a popular family safari holiday is because of its highly accessible location. For example a trip to Tanzania can easily be combined with a beach holiday to the picturesque Indian Ocean Islands, to either, the Maldives, Mauritius or the Seychelles.

Another incredible destination in Africa for a safari holiday is in South Africa, having one of the world's largest safari parks, the Kruger National Park. South Africa in particular has excellent infrastructure, roads and direct flights, South Africa is one of the most developed countries in Africa but similar to Botswana, you have the opportunity to step off the beaten track and explore the world's most spectacular natural playgrounds. You can't go wrong with a family holiday to South Africa, if your family love football then why not take them around the world cup stadiums, or if you love shopping and fine dining then why not head to one of the countries cosmopolitan cities, such as Johannesburg or Cape Town? A visit to South Africa will need some serious planning as there is just so much to see and do, South Africa can often be described as a country in one nation because of its sheer diversity of things to see and do.

Up and coming safari holiday destinations include Uganda and Malawi which more and more families are opting for instead of the traditional safari destinations.  These safari destinations are much cheaper than a safari holiday to Botswana or Tanzania.

No matter where you choose to go on your safari holiday, whether it is South Africa or Tanzania, Uganda or Malawi, you and your family will certainly have the time of your lives and will be in awe of the great wildlife and scenery.
