How to Clean a Pre-Filter for a Honeywell 51500 HEPA Air Cleaner

    • 1). Turn the control knob on your Honeywell 51500 air cleaner to the "Off" position. Unplug the unit.

    • 2). Position the cleaner on its side so that you can access the base assembly locking knob. Turn the knob counterclockwise until the knob and assembly pull away from the machine. Set the pieces aside.

    • 3). Pull the pre-filter and HEPA filter from the unit. Unfasten the pre-filter and pull it from the HEPA filter. Set the HEPA filter aside on a clean towel.

    • 4). Attach a crevice or brush attachment to your vacuum extension wand or hose.

    • 5). Vacuum both sides of the pre-filter with light side-to-side and top-to-bottom swipes. Vacuum the air intake vents on the unit and filter compartment.

    • 6). Fasten the vacuumed pre-filter around the HEPA filter and then insert the filters into the filter compartment. Reattach the base assembly and lock it. Place the unit in its original position.

    • 7). Plug in your air cleaner. Turn the control knob to the "High" or "Low" setting.
