So lets take an example: its time for XYZ Company to make a change, they want to upgrade their servers that are not up the caliber because of the changes within the firm itself. The thought would be, where should we go to buy new Dell servers or new IBM servers, if the choice is narrowed down to those two manufacturers. But another train of thought could be where can we buy used Dell servers or where can we buy used IBM servers, instead. In that case you want to look to a firm that has a need to sell used IBM servers or used Dell servers.

A firm that can help you with that is an IT asset disposition firm, also known as an ITAMG. Another name for an IT asset disposition firm is computer liquidator. But whatever name you call this type of company, one thing remains true, they can help you if you need to buy used Dell servers or IBM servers. So what are the best steps to find a firm such as this?

The first step would be to ask around for referrals. In looking for any type of new business this is always a good way to go when possible. But that is not always possible and you may have to do some research. If that's the case you want to look for a company that has experience and has had to sell used IBM servers or used Dell servers. Now you may wonder why do they need experience? It is best for a company to have history with this kind of transaction because you will know that they have had success in the past when another firm in this same type of situation. Let's say that other firm was looking for a particular IT asset, and that this ITAD was able to come through for them. This means that chances are very likely if they were able to help that customer in the past, that they will be able to help you.

In addition to having an ability to find the equipment you want, you want to look for a firm that will provide you a written agreement and be able to work with you as far as schedule. Both are very important. It goes without saying that having a contract is critical because you certainly don't want any surprise charges, and having a company accommodate your schedule may be crucial if you are also having old equipment liquidated. The last piece of advice is to find a company you are comfortable with. By doing this you won't second guess your choice, and will hopefully have a long term relationship with this firm.
