The ABCs of Affiliate Marketing
Some people begin by picking a product that they like. Others recommend that you begin by picking a market or niche that you can identify with.
Either way, you can begin with the Google keyword tool. There are certainly other keyword tools (usually with upgrade options that are paid for) but Google has some of the best products, for free. Some of the keyword tools are by subscription which may not be inexpensive for you. Your mission is to find keywords that are popular but not too competitive.
You make money when you can match the market to the product. How do you pick the product? Ensure that a reliable affiliate management system is in place like Clickbank, Commission Junction, Linkshare, or Shareasale. You should be able to check your stats in real-time, or close to it. The product should pay you an amount that is worth your time in promoting it. Also, this has to be a product with high quality and of course, in demand by your target market.
Now, how do you actually promote the product? You can do this for free or not. The latter popularly involves advertising, such as advertising on Google AdWords. You may have also heard of ppc advertising. PPC stands for pay per click and this is the advertising model the AdWords uses. This means that you only pay whenever your ad is clicked. You will have to bid on the price of your ad. The top bidder gets to the top of the search results.
The free method involves article marketing. Each of your articles carries a link to your site at the bottom; akin to an ad. Now instead of spending money, you spend time to write articles, on a regular basis.
Where do you drive the traffic to? To your website or blog of course. You may opt to drive this traffic directly to merchants' websites. It is up to you. You can monetize the traffic for long term if you choose the former but it can be simpler to just opt for the latter. Some of the top affiliates in fact, choose the latter over the former and enjoy great results. It is up to your preferences and how you are running your online business as a whole. No guru can ever really know you better than yourself. Most of all, have fun marketing as an affiliate.
