How to Care For Newborn Puppies Without a Mother
- 1). It is difficult to care for newborn puppies without a mother. In my case, there was a mother but she would not take care of her puppies. There was nine puppies. They all lived. Here are some tips I can give to anyone who has a situation similar to mine.
- 2). You should buy some formula for the puppies. You can find it at Petco or Pet Smart or any pet store. You will also need some bottles. Once you buy that, you will need to feed the puppies every two to three hours. You can normally tell when they are hungry. If you put your finger up to their mouthes and they suck your finger, they are probably hungry.
- 3). Make sure you keep up with who has been fed and who hasn't. Don't leave anyone out. If there is a mother but she will not care for the puppies, you can do what I did and hold her down on the ground. Let the puppies get their milk and just fight to hold her down for them.
- 4). Another job the mother does is to clean them regularly. She normally licks them clean. You could wipe them off with a warm cloth if you notice that they are dirty. I had to do this often.
- 5). Also, the mother usually provides warmth for them. You will need to make sure they are kept warm. Keep them in your home and put blankets around them. Try to keep them in one area.
- 6). Caring for newborn puppies is a 24 hour job. I hope these tips will help you.
