How to Make Eyes for Your Polymer Clay Sculpt
- 1). Take a small piece of clay (approximately 1" x 1") and place it on a glass dish.
- 2). Fashion two or more spheres using white polymer clay. These are going to be the eye balls so try to keep the diameter in scale with the rest of your sculpture.
- 3). Place two or more stick pins (head down, in order to secure) in to the 1" x 1" piece of clay. Now position the spheres of clay to the tips of the stick pins. Be careful not to distort the symmetry while adhering the spheres to the pins.
- 4). Bake the spheres on the glass dish using the time and temperature specified on your polymer clay directions.
- 5). Remove the spheres from the oven and let cool.
- 6). Use these spheres as the eyes for your clay sculpture. Set them midpoint between the top of the forehead to the chin. Shape the clay to form your face around the spheres. Be sure to remove any fresh clay from the front of the spheres that will be the visible portion of the eyeballs.
- 7). Bake your sculpted figure according to manufacturer specifications and let cool.
- 8). Use a fine tipped paint brush and steadily apply black acrylic paint for the pupils. You can position this differently depending on where you want your figure to be looking. You may want to do your first one in the center. Allow the pupils to dry completely before continuing.
- 9). Select your desired iris color and apply around the pupil. Allow to dry.
- 10
Add flecks of a different shade of the same color to the iris, for a more realistic eye. Allow to dry. - 11
Apply a small amount of clear nail polish to the sphere in order to create a "cornea" and a more realistic eye for your polymer clay sculpture. Allow to dry.
