Honda opened its first U.S. store in 1959 with six industrious employees. The store was in Los Angeles, California. At that time, Honda had three models available in the United States: the C100 Super Cub, the Dream Sport 300 and the CB92 Benly Super Sport. By 2001, Honda made 25 different models of motorcycles in the categories of touring, cruising, sport and dual sport. - In 2001 Honda had one touring motorcycle, the 2001 Honda FL1800A Gold Wing. This motorcycle has a 1832cc six cylinder engine. It has a light aluminum assembly and a slow speed electric reverse system that was specifically redesigned for this model.
- In 2001 Honda had thirteen cruiser motorcycles, including the 2001 Honda GL1500C Valkyrie, a custom bike known as the king of cruisers. It features a 1520cc six cylinder engine that is liquid cooled and tuned for power and cruising comfort. The other cruiser motorcycles that Honda brought out in 2001 were the Honda GL1500CF Valkyrie Interstate, Honda GL1500CD Valkyrie Deluxe, Honda VT1100C Shadow Spirit, Honda VT1100C2 Shadow Sabre, Honda VT1100C3 Shadow Aero, Honda VF750C Magna, Honda VT750DC Shadow Spirit, Honda VT100T Shadow Ace Tourer, Honda VT750C Shadow ACE Deluxe, Honda VT750C3 Shadow ACE, Honda VT6200C Shadow VLX and the Honda CMX250C Rebel.
- There were ten Honda Sports Model Motorcycles made in 2001. They were the Honda ST1100A ABS, Honda ST1100, Honda CBR100XX Super Blackbird, Honda RVT1000R RC51 (VTR1000S), Honda VTR1000F Firestorm, Honda CBR954RR Fireblade, Honda VFR800FI Interceptor, Honda CBR600F4i, Honda Nighthawk 750 and the Honda Nighthawk 250. Of these, the 2001 Honda ST1100A ABS motorcycle was the most versatile sport motorcycle available. It features the LBS (Linked Braking system) combined with the ABSII (Anti-Lock Brake System) which gives you improved braking control. The LBS employs a second master cylinder and a control valve to couple the calipers of the single rear and dual front disc brakes. Using the handlebar lever or the foot pedal you can activate all three calipers.
- The Honda XR650L was the only dual sport model motorcycle that Honda brought out in 2001. It features a 644cc SOHC four stroke engine. It has RFVC (Radial Four Valve Combustion Chamber) providing added combustion. It uses a push button start feature and a quiet muffler that uses free flowing two into one exhaust system technology.
