Psoriasis Causes and Treatment Options

105 2
There is a huge problem when talking about psoriasis causes. It seems that most people in the world have no idea what they are. The truth is that we do not know the exact cause of the disease but we do know some things that we have to be aware of at all times. Research shows that psoriasis is directly linked with the way in which the immune system responds. According to scientists, T cells can trigger skin inflammation and this leads to skin cell growth that is abnormally high. A T cell is a white blood cell type that usually helps our body in fighting against infection and diseases.

Unfortunately there are also some reports that show that heredity is one of the psoriasis causes. Some people might just inherit the condition. It is not known why or how but around 30% of all people that are suffering from psoriasis do have the disease in their medical family history. As time passes the condition can improve or get worse. Most people will have it constantly appearing and disappearing. This happens because we do have some triggers that will cause a psoriasis flare up.
They are:

€ Stress

€ Infections

€ Drying skin caused by climate changes

€ Medications like depression drugs, lithium or beta blockers

We have to understand that psoriasis is a skin disease. It will cause swelling and scaling and will increase the speed at which normal cell turnover happens in the human body. To put it simple, new cells grow too quickly and this leaves excess skin. Patients will have to deal with red, thick skin patches that are usually covered with white or silvery scales. These patches will either burn or itch. You can find them on various parts of the body but the most common ones are the lower back, face, feet soles, palms, elbows, scalp and knees. Most patients will be adults and sex spread is irrelevant.

Psoriasis Treatment Options

It is highly important to also know facts about treatment and not just about psoriasis causes. The problem is that the best treatment will be based on the individual and the severity of the condition. In addition, people will need to analyze psoriasis patches size, psoriasis type and the reaction that is noticed when faced with a specific treatment. To put it simple, what works for one person might not be effective for another one.

We have 3 main treatment types that are used in Psoriasis: Systemic, Phototherapy and Topical treatment. Topical treatments use ointments and creams that are directly applied to your skin. This mainly helps in suppressing the body's immune system, reduce swelling and decreasing cell turnover. Phototherapy is basically light therapy. It was shown that an exposure to ultraviolet light can help out a lot in dealing with psoriasis symptoms.
The systemic treatments are strong and are only used when faced with severe psoriasis cases. In most cases we are going to see a doctor administer them via shots. This is a treatment option that will not be preferred because of the fact that it can easily attack the entire body and has many potential side effects.
