Jade Plant Fungus
- According to the Missouri Botanical Garden, powdery mildew is a fungal disease that commonly affects jade, ivy, African violets, begonias, rosemary, kalanchoe and poinsettia. This disease is most severe in cool, damp environments and causes an unsightly fungus to develop on affected plants.
- The primary symptom associated with powdery mildew in jade plants is a white or gray fungal coating that covers the leaves, buds, stems and flowers of affected plants. This fungus is easily rubbed from the plant, but returns quickly. Severe powdery mildew infection can lead to impaired photosynthesis and stunting of the plant. Jade plants with powdery mildew infection often fail to thrive as plant health declines.
- Select disease-resistant cultivars to avoid fungal diseases. Keep all plants that show signs of infection away from other plants and dispose of infected plant parts. Avoid overcrowding of plants to promote proper aeration, which reduces fungal growth. Applying fungicides to your jade plant can control and eliminate powdery mildew
