Best Ethnic Bars in Williamsburg

106 8
Williamsburg boasts a slew of German style beer halls to choose from - Radegast, Spritzenhaus, and Loreley being the top three. Whether you're in the mood for an Irish pub or for something completely different like Brazilian cocktails, this list will help you navigate the best ethnic bars in the neighborhood.

1. Radegast Beer Hall - German

Radegast Beergarten is a large beer hall located on Berry St. and N. 3rd. If you're looking for a party, best to go to Radegast on the weekends - both day and night you'll find it crowded and rowdy, with the majority of its patrons coming in to Brooklyn from Manhattan or even New Jersey. If the idea of a loud night doesn't appeal to you, visit Radegast on a weekday night. Sit inside for table service or take advantage of the nice open roof area where you can drink your beer and order sausage from the grill in the back.More »

2. Loreley - German

Loreley is the place to go in Williamsburg if you're looking for an authentic German beer garden. There's plenty of outdoor seating, and nearly every single beer on tap or by the bottle is from Germany or Austria. In addition to the authentic atmosphere and drinks, there is a full dinner menu and brunch (on the weekends) filled with traditional German fare.  More »

3. Spuyten Duyvil - European

Spuyten Duyvil has the upper hand on nearly every single bar in Brooklyn when it comes to European beers. This is not the place to go if you're in the mood for a Bud Light. But if you love the idea of drinking a bottle from a small town in Sweden that you've never heard of, Spuyten Duyvil is for you. The interior of the bar is a bit cramped, but in the warmer months they open a beautiful (and large) outdoor garden.  More »

4. Spritzenhaus - German

Sister to Manhattan's very popular bar and restaurant Spitzer's, Spritzenhaus boasts a beer hall about four city blocks wide and half an avenue deep, perfect for day drinking or large parties. There are twenty-five different beers (mostly German) on tap at four separate stations inside so you won't have to worry about waiting to get the bartender's attention. Food choices include traditional German sausages, but also hamburgers and more American influenced cuisine.More »

5. Iona - Irish

Iona is Williamsburg's neighborhood Irish pub, but it's a great bar all around. St. Patrick's Day is a lot of fun here. But even on a regular weeknight, particularly in the summer, Iona boasts plenty of Irish beer and whiskey and a lovely outdoor patio where you can frequently find inexpensive barbecue to chow down on. Iona is a friendly, low-key bar and it's great for groups.More »

6. Beco - Brazilian

Not only does Beco have the most delicious and authentic Brazilian food in Williamsburg, it is one of the best bars for the traditional Brazilian cocktail, the caipirinha. Made up of cachaca, crushed limes, and sugar, it is delicious and lethal. Beco also features two Brazilian beers by the bottle, and has a semi-full bar for mixed drinks as well. You may come to watch the game and guzzle down some cocktails, but you'll want to stay for dinner: the food is incredible.More »

7. Caracas Arepa Bar - Venezuelan

Caracas features delicious traditional Venezuelan food, like an arepa: your choice of beef, cheese, or veggies wrapped in a corn muffin, but their drinks are also quite authentic. Here you'll find one of the largest selections of rum in Brooklyn - you can order a flight to try up to five different kinds. And if rum isn't your drink of choice, Caracas offers a cocktail menu, beers by the bottle, wines by the glass, and of course, an incredible michelada.More »
