How to Seam Vinyl Flooring

    • 1). Spread vinyl flooring adhesive glue with the trowel and install the first piece of vinyl flooring. Do not apply glue within 6 inches of the planned seam.

    • 2). Roll from the edge toward the seam with a 100-pound roller.

    • 3). Place the second piece of flooring over the installed section of flooring. Overlap the second piece by about 1 inch or until the pattern lines up with the installed piece.

    • 4). Use a straight edge, such as a metal ruler, to cut through both pieces at the same time so the edges will align perfectly. Hold the knife at a 90-degree angle to prevent a gap after installation. If necessary, hold the knife against a block of wood and slide the block of wood along the metal straight edge to keep the knife at 90 degrees.

    • 5). Spread glue with a trowel 3 inches on each side of the seam.

    • 6). Press the installed piece into the glue and roll into position with a hand roller.

    • 7). Place the second piece on the glue line against the first piece, aligning the pattern and cut mark. Press the edge securely into position with a hand roller.

    • 8). Allow the adhesive at the seam to dry until the seam can hold the vinyl flooring in place. Carefully roll the second section of flooring and glue the rest of the second piece into position, starting from the glued edge.
