Medical transcriptionists are trained to listen to the didactic recordings that are made by healthcare professionals and accurately transcribe those recordings into medical records, such as reports and correspondence, as well as other administrative material. Medical transcriptionist training programs are available in both on-site and online delivery formats. - Stenotech Career Institute offers a medical transcription training program that can be completed on a part-time or full-time schedule depending on students’ needs. If students choose to complete the program on a part-time schedule, they have the option of taking day time or evening classes. If they pursue the program on a full-time schedule, they can complete the program over the course of 40 weeks of study. Students will learn medical terminology, medicolegal issues and surgical and laboratory procedures.

Penn Foster offers students the option of studying online or in print as well as a combination of the two.
