Right Screw Types Give Stronger Joints and Keep the Structure Intact

Screws are used as industrial fasteners as wells as in domestic construction. In furniture, metal sheets, plastic and metal sheets roofing, fastening doors to walls, etc. Each of these activities needs a specific type of screw. By knowing that self drilling self tapping screws exist, that may not help in taking the correct decision about their usage. Since industrial usage pertains to large structures, it has to be reliable and strong to avoid any disaster. The complete project used with wrong type of screw will lead to malfunction.

Self drilling self tapping screws differ in the purpose where it is being used. Self tapping screw is where it can find its way inside the metal or hard object as it is turned in its place. There is a small drill like point in the front and then as it advances into the metal it can cut its own thread. This is made by creating a groove running all the way from bottom to the top. This thread drills through the material causing the screw to move inside the metal or hard surface. Whereas self drilling screws are similar to metal screws with threads but in addition it has a drill like tip, and then the thread starts to the top. This can go into the metal sheets and hard objects like a drill which eliminates the need for doing a pilot hole. The taper body helps to fasten as the point moves inside the metal body by drilling. The front fluted tip makes the hole and the taper keeps moving into the body. The self drilling screws are very efficient in hard substrate applications from roofing to assembly lines.

Another object used in construction is the solid polycarbonate sheets. These sheets are made of thermoplastic polymers and can be worked, moulded and thermoformed. Polycarbonate sheets are preferred over glass sheets because they can prevent UV rays from passing. The dug outs on the fields for players are made of these kind of polycarbonate sheets. They also have strong resistance and are 200 times stronger than common glass. For this reason they are preferred as roofs on top of the building for entertainment venue where light is needed to pass. They are also used as roofs in greenhouses.

These solid polycarbonate sheets are so light that they weigh almost half of the glass for the same volume. There is savings on transportation and handling. The crash helmets for bike races are using polycarbonate sheets as visors in the helmets. When it is used as walls or roofs, the advantage it gives is the thermal insulation. It is a bad thermal conductor so keeps the heat away from passing across while at the same time gives light. Because of the exceptional light transmission and high impact strength features, they are most preferred over glass. Since it is a polymer which has to go through elongated processing, the cost for polycarbonate sheets is higher than glass. But the strength is too high and thus the return on expenditure is easily recovered.
