Are you worried about keeping your American Power Conversion Battery backup system in tip top shape? Not to sure on when would be a good time to replace your RBC27 battery pack? Well, American Power Conversion recommends replacing your battery pack once every three to four years that it is in service.
I know what you are probably thinking right now, why should I replace something that is not broken? Well there is a good explanation to your question, starting with the how the RBC27 battery functions.
Your American Power Conversion rack-mount battery backup system is programmed to constantly keep the RBC27 battery pack in a charged state in order to be ready at a fraction of a seconds notice if the main power source fails.
Unfortunately, one of the adverse affects that this has on the RBC27 battery is that it does generate trace amounts of heat inside the battery.
Over time, this heat will cause irreversible damage to the internals of the battery and slowly diminish its capacity which is directly related to its run-time.
This process starts to take a considerable toll at around the three year mark of the RBC27 battery pack being in service, and will progressively get worse as it is left in service.
This could have a serious impact on your entire battery backup system's effectiveness in the event of a power-outage.
The heat caused by constant charging can also have a second affect on the RBC27 battery.
Inside the RBC27 aluminum box resides eight individual twelve volt seven amp hour sealed lead acid batteries.
Over time the heat generated from constant charging can cause the cases on these small sealed lead acid batteries to weaken and crack or deform.
If the batteries inside the unit deform, they could expand a great deal and ultimately miss-shape the RBC27 cartridge and make it difficult for it to be removed.
In the case of the sealed lead acid battery's case cracking, the remaining electrolyte inside the batteries is now free to leak out of the battery and cause severe damage to either the internal circuitry of your RBC27 battery pack or the circuitry of your rack-mounted battery backup system controller.
All in all, even though it may be a pain to replace these batteries every three to four years, it will give you peace of mind concerning overall system health and business uptime.
I would not recommend waiting any longer that the four year mark to replace your RBC27 battery or else you might fall subject to the hazards mentioned above.
