How to Unclog a Heavily Clogged Drain
- 1). Fill the sink a quarter full with water. Place the cup plunger flat over the drain. Push down on the plunger and gently pull back up to create suction that will force the clog through the pipes. When pulling, don't break the suction; ensure the plunger is flat against the sink, over the drain at all times.
- 2). Push the drain auger into the drain as far as it will go. Once it reaches the clog, turn the handle to trigger the end of the auger to grind the clog. If the auger gets stuck and won't turn or go forward, pull it back some, resume grinding, and slowly push it back to the clog. Run water down the sink afterward to check if the drain is clear.
- 3). Slide the balloon end of the blow bag into the drain as far as it will go. Run water into the tube at the other end. The balloon in the drain will fill up with water until it wedges in the pipe. High pressure water squirts from the holes and blasts at the clog. Allow it to run for 5 to 10 minutes as the water forces the clog into the sewer. Turn the water off and allow the balloon to deflate, and then pull the blow bag out of the sink.
- 4). Pour a cap full of Drano Liquid Clog Remover slowly into the clogged drain. Wait 20 to 30 minutes for it to dissolve the clog, and then run boiling water through the pipe. Run additional water through the sink to check if the clog is removed.
- 5). Pour ¼ cup baking soda down the drain. Pour 1 cup of vinegar into the drain directly afterward. Cover the drain with a clean rag to prevent the foaming from exiting the drain. Wait 15 to 20 minutes for the clog to dissolve, and then pour 3 cups of boiling water down the drain. Test the drain by running the sink for a few minutes.
