How to Repair 5th Generation iPods
- 1). Plug your iPod into your computer with the USB cord and allow it to fully charge. Flip the hold switch from on to off again.
- 2). Reset your iPod. Press the menu and select (middle) buttons on the click wheel down at the same time, and wait until you see the Apple logo on the screen to release them. If there is no response, move the USB cord to a different port on your computer.
- 3). Restart your computer. Check to see if there is a newer version of iTunes by clicking "Tools" and "Windows Update" (for PCs) or the Apple icon and "Software Update" (for Macs). If there is a newer version, update now.
- 4). Launch iTunes and select your iPod under "Devices." Click "Check for Update" and accept an update if one is available. Check your iPod once the update is complete to see if that solved your issue. If not, continue to Step 5.
- 5). Restore your iPod to factory settings. Click on your "iPod" under "Devices," then select "Restore." The process may take several minutes. Your music, podcasts and games will be saved in your iTunes library and erased from your iPod. If you are still experiencing difficulties after restoring your iPod, Apple recommends calling your Apple store to set up an appointment.
