Carla Hughes faces death penalty for killing Avis Banks

The former Jackson school teacher, Carla Hughes has been found guilty of killing pregnant Avis Banks and the jury at Madison County convicted her, on Tuesday, for committing the crime. Banks was killed at her home, at Ridgeland, which she shared with her fiancée; Keyon Pittman .Hughes killed Banks because Hughes was having sexual relationship with Keyon Pittman, who is her school colleague.
Banks was stabbed four times all over the body, on the neck, the legs and the face, at her apartments on November 29, in 2006.She had shots on her legs and were killed because the victim wanted to get rid of her to be with Pittman .The verdict may get Carla Hughes life imprisonment or death penalty for killing a woman and her unborn baby.
The verdict brought tears into the eyes of the relatives and family members of both the parties. Hughes started sobbing in the courtroom as she heard the verdict and there was mixed response from both the parties. Bank’s sister said she was relieved and she recalled the moments she shared with her sister. Bank’s family suspected Pittman’s role in Bank’s murder but Pittman was not found guilty by the court and Bank’s mother pointing towards sky said “God will take care of him.” Banks father said now his daughter’s soul will rest in peace and the verdict has brought justice to her. There are huge responses from many parts of the country as the verdict was given.
