How to Install a Vent-Free Propane Heater
- 1). Install the propane heater mounting brackets to the inside wall surface where you want to mount your heater. Use a stud finder and mount at least one of the brackets to the wall at the location of the stud, using a 2-inch wood screw tightened with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 2). Space the mounting brackets correctly, using the template that came with your heater. Mount the other bracket to the wall by drilling a hole into the plaster or drywall and inserting a drywall anchor. Place the other mounting bracket over the anchor and tighten the anchor screw with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 3). Lift the heater and lower it over the two mounting brackets. Insert the tabs on each bracket into the slots on the back of the heater as it is lowered into place.
- 4). Apply a pipe dope designed for gas line fittings to the female threads at the gas fitting at the base of the heater and on the male threads of a gas shutoff valve. Thread the shutoff valve to the heater and tighten with a pipe wrench in a clockwise direction.
- 5). Connect a flexible appliance gas line extension to the threads of the gas shutoff valve and to the threads of your gas line. Use pipe dope on the threads and tighten with a pipe wrench in a clockwise direction.
- 6). Turn the gas supply on and apply a liquid gas leak detector to all connections. Turn off the gas and tighten any connections if the leak detector bubbles at the junction of the fittings.
