How to Clear Cloudy Farm Pond Water

    • 1). Trim trees and plants around the pond to prevent falling debris. Use a rake and pond skimmers to clean out as much dropped debris as you can. This will eliminate the nutrients that encourage algae growth and help clear a cloudy pond.

    • 2). Use harmless live microbial products as a part of your pond management to clear the pond of farm animal waste. Check with water conservation and your local extension services to determine the best pond clarifiers and enzymes for your area.

    • 3). Use algaecides to kill algae that cause green water. Plant surface plants like water lilies, a natural way to lower water temperature and starve out algae that causes your pond to be cloudy.

    • 4). Remove contaminated rocks covered in sludge and slime that cause the pond to smell like rotten eggs. Add enzymes to eat the sludge.

    • 5). Use coagulators to clear up problems when rainwater runoff brings dirt and debris into the pond. Coagulators will bind the dirt and debris, causing it to fall to the bottom of the pond and be eaten with the sludge. Build dikes, ditches and pools to stabilize and clear the main pond.
