You can't visit Wales and not go to Snowdonia national park, the legendary burial place of King Arthur and his Knights.
Snowdonia National Park is in the northern part of Wales, and is incredibly picturesque with lovely towns and little coastal hamlets to explore.
However all pales into relative insignificance, alongside the stunning grandeur and beauty of Snowdonia National Park.
The centrepiece so to speak is Mount Snowdon the highest in Wales standing a majestic 3560 feet above sea level, and is one of the highest mountain peaks in Great Britain.
Visitors from the United States get a bit confused at the description National Park, because it is inhabited, whereas a National Park in the USA is uninhabited..
As a case in point there is a mountain railway on Snowdon and it departs from a village called Llanberis.
The rack and pinion railway, the only one in Great Britain runs for about five miles up a very steep slope, and stops less than one hundred feet short of the summit.
The Snowdon Mountain Railway has been in action since 1896, and is a never to be forgotten trip.
You could walk up to the summit of Mount Snowdon but it will take you around three hours, but is still a very popular trek for the fit and hardy.
Remember if you walk that weather conditions on the mountain can change at short notice, so need decent hill walking gear, plus waterproofs.
A sunny summer's afternoon can even turn to snow with no warning at all, and you don't want to get caught out.
Having strolled or fought your way to the summit of Mount Snowdon, and assuming a clear day, the views from the summit are well worth the effort.
You will be able to see most of the 840 square miles of the national park spread out below, and you can even see as far as the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland, over 90 miles away.
This is some of Wales most spectacular scenery with a lot of wildlife and plenty to do and see, with over 27 miles of coastline as well as the peaks, and wooded valleys.
Snowdonia National Park is a great place to visit.
