Projects for Ceramic Flower Pot Centerpieces
- Ceramic flower pots are versatile vessels for a variety of centerpiece designs. Colorful ceramic flower pots can hold more than flowers and plants. You can stand items such as baby rattles, wedding cake toppers and pillar candles inside the flower pots to create centerpiece designs that fit any occasion.
- Fill a ceramic flower pot with sand or colorful rocks as a support for stemmed storks and rattles. Look for these and other baby related items at party favor stores, then glue them onto the ends of painted 1/8-inch diameter dowels. Stick the dowels in the sand or brace them with the rocks to create the centerpiece for a baby shower.
Another way to brace stemmed baby decorations is by rolling diapers and stuffing them between the stems. Select newborn sized diapers so the honoree can use them when the baby is born. - Bridal shower centerpieces are other projects you can make with ceramic flower pots. A wedding cake topper glued to a painted dowel in the center of the flower pot, surrounded by stalks of lucky bamboo is a simple way to wish the happy couple well. Fill the flower pot with decorative stones to support the dowel and the bamboo stalks. Add water to each one so the live bamboo stalks can survive.
- Centerpiece projects for garden parties or receptions can also include flowering plants. Potted bulb plants such as lilac, tulips, daffodils and calla lilies are small enough to grow inside small and medium sized ceramic flower pots. If the flowers are not in season, plan ahead and force the bulbs at any time of the year. It can take between 12 and 16 weeks to force bulbs, depending on the cultivator. Forcing the bulbs is also the most cost-effective way to create a large number of living ceramic pot centerpieces. Most potted bulbs can be transplanted into the garden or continue to grow in the container.
- Cutout shapes of flowers from copper foil, glue them to stems made from copper tubing to create a metal garden centerpiece for the ceramic flower pot. You can leave the copper flowers as they are, or paint them with acrylics. Add small hummingbird, butterfly or ladybug cutouts for design interest. Anchor the copper tubing stems inside the ceramic pots with sand or decorative stones. This centerpiece project can be used repeatedly for years.
