How to Install Wood Molding
- 1). Put on all protective gear.
- 2). Pry off any old molding with a small pry bar. Pull out any nails with the hammer.
- 3). Plug in a chop saw and place it on a long table about 6 to 8 feet long. The table will help you hold the molding in place while you make your cuts.
If you don't have a chop saw, use a fine-bladed hand saw with a miter box. - 4). Save any molding you can because you can use it for a template.
- 5). Measure for your molding cuts with a measuring tape. Don't forget to consider inside and outside corners. Use a 45-degree angle to make any corner cuts.
- 6). Make all your molding cuts on the chop saw.
- 7). Paint or stain your molding before you install it. Use a regular brush for paint or a foam brush for stain. Let dry several hours before installing the molding.
- 8). Install each piece of molding, using an air nail gun or hammer and small brad nails.
- 9). Level the molding as you install it.
- 10
Apply a solid bead of waterproof and mildew-proof silicone to the entire outside edge of the molding. Let it dry overnight.
