Art Colleges in Ohio
- Ohio is home to a variety of art colleges, both in larger universities and in professional art schools. Most offer a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) or BA (Bachelor of Arts) degrees to undergraduates; many also award MFA (Master of Fine Arts) degrees to graduate students. When deciding where to apply, consider the quality of each school's faculty and the variety of majors offered as well as their size and location. Applications for admission will usually require a portfolio of work.
- Ohio State University's College of the Arts (arts.osu.edu/) houses programs in art, art education, dance, design, history of art, music and theatre. The art school offers majors in art and technology, ceramics, glass, painting and drawing, photography, printmaking and sculpture. Before choosing an area of concentration, undergraduates are required to complete a Foundation Studies program that is interdisciplinary in nature. This school offers both BA and BFA degrees as well as MFA degrees for graduate students.
- Ohio University's College of Fine Arts, within the School of Art (finearts.ohio.edu/art/) offers undergraduate (BFA and BA) and graduate degrees. Students can major in art education, ceramics, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture or art history. All students begin as BA candidates and can apply to enter the BFA track in their sophomore year. First and second year students work to complete a Foundations Program before choosing a major.
- The Cleveland Institute of Art (cia.edu/) offers a variety of majors, including some you will not find at other Ohio schools. You can earn a degree in biomedical art, ceramics, communication design/graphic design, drawing, enameling, fiber, glass, illustration, industrial design, interior design, jewelry and metals, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, digital arts or liberal arts. You will have to complete a Foundation Program similar to those at Ohio State University and Ohio University.
- Kent State University's School of Art (dept.kent.edu/art/academics/academics.html) offers BA and BFA degrees as well as some graduate programs. You can study art education, art history, crafts or fine art. The Fine Art Program offers majors in sculpture, drawing, painting and printmaking.
- Bowling Green State University's School of Art (art.bgsu.edu/) offers majors in art education, art history, digital arts, graphic design, 2-D studies, and 3-D studies. You can earn a BFA in Studio Art, or BA in Art History or Art. The School of Art is also home to a graduate school.
