    Masking

    • 1). Pull a foot of painter's tape from the end of the roll. Press the end of the tape against the glass at the side of the wooden window frame that you have prepared for painting.

    • 2). Run the tape along the window as you press it down with your fingers or a putty knife. You are masking the window to prevent paint from hitting it.

    • 3). Tear the tape when you reach the corner of the window glass.

    • 4). Place the end of the tape against the torn end of the first piece and run the strip along the top side of the window. Tear the tape and start at the remaining side of the window. Smooth the tape along the glass to the corner near the bottom of the frame.

    • 5). Run tape along the bottom of the pane of glass to prevent paint from dripping or smearing over it when you paint the trim. Tear off small pieces of tape to cover each corner of the window where the ends of tape were joined.

    Paint Shield

    • 1). Grasp the handle of a paint shield and press it against the window pane.

    • 2). Slide the paint shield flat edge snugly against the window frame.

    • 3). Glide the paint brush over the window frame. The flat edge of the paint shield will prevent any paint from running over the glass.

    • 4). Move the paint shield by sliding it along the window frame as you paint the trim.

    • 5). Wipe the shield with a rag or paper towel when you are finished painting.
