But how do we achieve a calm mind in a mad world?  It is not always easy or practical  to meditate, get a massage or sleep when we are in the middle of our busy workdays.  Although there are many ways possible that will help calm the mind, below are the most effective, easy and inexpensive ways which can be implemented to bring about relaxation, reduced anxiety and has a calming effect on the mind:
  1.  Make some targeted quiet time.  You will have to consciously and actively schedule
some time during which you are not interrupted, not listening to any noise and not being bombarded by any external messages. Your quiet time may be a walk in a garden, just after breakfast, during your lunch break or just after work, or it might be a place where you go to meditate, just for a few minutes.  The idea is that this time and place should be completely void of anything that interrupts your own thought patterns and your inner voice. Leave the iPod and music switched off during this time.  Let your
mind take you wherever it wants during this time; just keep your surroundings
quiet and uninterrupted.  Listen to the silence.
  2. Perform calming mind exercises.  These exercises are something very valuable to people who need to find ways to calm their mind, relax and focus and can be performed anywhere, anytime. This is how it works:  It involves you sitting down, consciously relaxing all your muscles.  Close your eyes, ensuring that your environment is safe and un-intrusive although it does not have to be completely
quiet.  Take a deep breath, inhaling through your nose, hold it in for five seconds, and then exhale slowly through your mouth.  Repeat a few times.  Your breath should be taken so that your diaphragm moves up and down and not your shoulders.  You will feel yourself relax, your mind will calm, your brain will be oxygenated and your muscles will relax.  This is just as simple a relaxing exercise as it is a calming exercise for the mind.
  3. Listen to relaxing binaural beats.  Binaural beats were discovered in 1839 and are certain types of sounds which affect the brain in a way to induce relaxation and calming.  The sounds are produced as two distinct low frequency audible beats (therefore bi-), very close in frequency, mixed and listened to through headphones.  Today, CD's or mp3 downloads of binaural beats can be purchased or listened to almost anywhere and the benefits or relaxation and other benefits it brings, enjoyed fully.
