Installing RAM on a Compaq Presario C500

• 1). Put on rubber gloves to eliminate possibility of transferring a static shock and harming the computer. Turn off the computer and disconnect the power to the unit. Place the computer bottom up and remove the battery.
  
  
• 2). Find the hatch that covers the RAM. It will have a small symbol on it that looks like a stick of RAM.
  
  
• 3). Use the screwdriver to remove all of the screws on the RAM hatch. Put the screws in a safe place where they will not roll away and disappear. Remove the hatch from the laptop.
  
  
• 4). Holding the sides of the RAM, gently slide the male end of the RAM into the socket and push it down into the housing to secure the side catches. Do this for each stick you are installing.
  
  
• 5). Replace the hatch by putting the screws back in with the screwdriver, do not forcefully tighten the screws as this may break the screws or casing.
  
  
• 6). Replace the battery and turn over the computer. Plug in the power cable and turn on the computer.
