Stop Barking Dogs by Listening

103 1
Do you become frustrated or even angry when your dog's barking goes on - and on? Well how do you think your neighbors feel? ...
Hello! ...
They have no control over it.
So how do you stop barking dogs? Well there are lots of ways to do that (without hurting or killing the dog of course ...
Doh!).
But the very first action you should take is to LISTEN! ...
Yes - Listen to what they're saying.
"What? Are you nuts? Dogs don't talk!" Yes they do! ...
They talk when they bark - They talk when they look at you - They talk when they behave and they talk when they misbehave - When they're happy and when they're sad - When they want you around and when they don't ...
"Doggy Talk"! Of course they talk! ...
You just have to teach yourself to listen - Listen to what they have to say.
Then, and only then can you successfully and humanely teach your dog or puppy to tell when is and isn't the appropriate place or time to bark (or talk).
Sort of like teaching kids the same sort of stuff ...
Stop puppies barking ...
Stop kids screaming ...
Whatever! If you learn to respect your dog's thoughts - they, in turn, will come to respect yours.
That makes sense, doesn't it? Learning how to stop a dog from barking can become a skill to be shared amongst your doggy friends.
They will love you for it if they're having similar problems with their pooch.
Often, merely acknowledging your dog may be enough to stop the barking (or bad behavior of any kind for that matter).
Sometimes it's enough for him or her just to know that you've heard and understood what they're carrying on about.
Failing that, try a very stern "NO!" - And sound and look as though you mean it - don't be half-assed about it.
Be consistent with this and your dog will soon get the message.
Be inconsistent, and you'll be chasing your own tail.
A little treat for doing the right thing immediately after any good behavior "works a treat".
(That reminds me, I have to get my wife a bone ...
umm, I mean chocs.
) Incidentally, if your dog has a bone to gnaw on and is exercised regularly, the chances of them barking up a storm are minimized ...
Just something to keep in mind.
So as important as it is to stop barking dogs from driving the whole neighborhood around the twist, give a thought first and foremost to what's going on in your dog's mind.
THEN take action!
