How to Replace a Shower Faucet Washer
- 1). Turn off the water supply to the faucet. If you do not have a separate valve for the shower faucet, turn off the main water supply to the house.
- 2). Open the faucet and allow any remaining water to drain.
- 3). Locate the stem of the faucet and remove the handle.
- 4). Loosen the nut using penetrating oil and then remove the nut from the protective plate using pliers.
- 5). Remove the screws from the faucet stem using a screwdriver and then remove the shower faucet washer and set it aside. Replace the washer with a new one.
- 6). Replace the screws on the faucet one at a time, using a screwdriver to tighten each one.
- 7). Apply a bead of plumber's putty to the bottom of the protective plate.
- 8). Put the faucet stem and handle back together and reinstall the faucet.
- 9). Turn the water supply on; turn on the shower faucet and check to make sure the faucet is working properly.
