How to Replace the Lower Sash on an Andersen Window
- 1). Unlock the window, and raise the lower sash a few inches. Remove the screws from the sash stop on the window sill, using a Phillips screwdriver. Run the edge of a utility knife along the edge of the stop to release it from the sill. Remove the stop from the window sill and put it aside. Skip this step if your Andersen window does not have a sill stop.
- 2). Lower the sash. Remove the retaining screws from the top of the left sash liner in the window jamb with a Phillips screwdriver. Raise the sash completely, and remove the lower screws in the liner in the same fashion.
- 3). Place your left hand over the left sash liner just below the open sash. Bend the bottom of the sash liner out with your right hand, and begin to pull the liner from the jamb. Place the liner aside once it is clear of the jamb.
- 4). Close the lower sash, then pull the left side of the sash away from the window. Pull down on the sash cord and remove it from the lower sash. Slowly let the cord retract into the jamb. Slide the sash out of the right window jamb, and remove it from the window.
- 5). Slide the right side of the replacement sash into the right side of the window jamb. Pull down on the sash cord, and hook it back into place on the left side of the sash. Push the left side of the sash into the window jamb. Raise the sash.
- 6). Slide the left sash liner into the gap between the sash and the window jamb. Replace the liner retaining screws, and tighten them with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 7). Replace the sill stop, and tighten the retaining screws. Skip this step if the window does not have a sill stop.
