Geographic Prom Themes

• Consider a prom theme that revolves around a geographic location. Some geographic prom themes include a New Orleans theme like "Mardi Gras," a New York-based theme such as "A Night on Broadway" or a Seattle theme such as "Sleepless in Seattle."
  
  Also include international cities as possible themes. Consider "A Night in Paris" theme. Decorate with images of the Eiffel Tower and the French flag. Play French music and serve some French-inspired foods.
  
  

Sports-Themed Proms

• Have a sports-themed prom for a more casual event. You can incorporate all sports into a prom theme. Use images of various sports balls to decorate walls and use tennis rackets, golf clubs, footballs and baseballs as table centerpieces.
  
  Choose one specific sport such as basketball, baseball or football to feature. A football theme can incorporate school colors and the school mascot image. Ask the school mascot to make an appearance at the prom and dance with the prom queen. Another interesting prom theme is "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." • Movies can provide inspiration for prom themes. Current movies that are popular amongst high school students can create a good theme for prom. Classic movies are also a good source of inspiration. Consider a "Back to the Future" theme. Invite students to come in prom attire from either the 1980s when the film was made or from the 1950s, a decade featured prominently in the movie.
  
  "Gone with the Wind" and "The Wizard of Oz" are classic movies that make for an interesting ball theme. Or, use animated films such as "The Little Mermaid" or "Beauty and the Beast" as a prom theme.
  
  

Other Ball and Prom Themes

• Prom or ball theme inspiration is practically limitless. Choose a specific color, such as red, for a prom theme. Decorate the venue in panels of red fabric and hang red balloons and streamers from the ceilings and walls.
  
  Other theme ideas can come from music, literature and television programs. Realty and game shows can also be turned into prom themes.
