How to Make Homemade Archways
- 1). Cover the holes in the bottoms of two large planters with tape.
- 2). Move the planters to where you would like to position your homemade archway.
- 3). Fill the planters with sand until they are relatively full. Keep the sand loose, as opposed to packing it down.
- 4). Divide your 7-foot-tall curly willow branches in half and insert an equal number into each planter. Push the curly willow branches down into the sand as far as they will go.
- 5). Repeat step 3 with your 5-foot-tall curly willow branches, inserting them into the planters as well. Position the branches in a design that you like, using the shorter branches to add thickness to the base of the archway.
- 6). Pack the sand in each planter down tightly around the curly willow branches. Cover the sand with decorative moss.
- 7). Use wire cutters to cut a long section of twine wire. Stand on a ladder and pull the bunches of branches in each planter toward one another to form an arch. Use your hands to weave the branches together and secure them with the length of twine wire.
- 8). Decorate your homemade archway using materials such as flowers, paint, balloons and ribbon if you'd like.
