    Fruit Picking

    • Picking fruit is a job that is an option for backpackers and teenagers abroad. It is a basic role that can be taken up in many countries around the world. Australia and New Zealand are relatively well-known for offering seasonal work to travelers in the field of fruit picking during harvest. Meanwhile, there may be roles available in Europe and the Americas, including in wine-producing regions where grapes need to be harvested.

    Hospitality Jobs

    • Teenagers traveling to a country with a thriving tourism industry may be able to find work in the hospitality industry, for instance, as a waiter. Many of the jobs in the hospitality sector will be basic and low-paid but, if youngsters are traveling during vacation season -- which is likely to be summer in most countries, with the exception of ski resorts -- there is a good chance there will be work available. Teenagers looking for hospitality jobs in Australia who think they may be involved in serving alcohol may be required to hold a Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate. It is also important to note that the legal age to serve liquor in the country is 18.

    Volunteering

    • Many people take gap years or summer trips to volunteer abroad and there are many organizations that provide packages for teenagers to do so safely. Jobs are often offered by charities, and the youngsters working for them may make a real difference to the community they are helping, performing such tasks as reforestation or community projects.

    Internships

    • It is possible to do internships abroad in basic level jobs, although some experience of the sector may be required, so this type of opportunity could be more suited to those who have gone into work rather than attending university. Teenagers may also have to be over the age of 18 to take on an internship.
