Travel Clothing Checklist
- A list can make sure that you don't over-pack for a trip. With high overcharge fees on luggage that is over the airplane weight limits and high gas prices, packing light can really be a money saver. So if an item isn't on the list, don't put it in the bag.
- Start by making a list of how many days the trip will be and any special events that may require a change of clothes. Cold destinations may mean a ski trip or sledding adventure, which requires snow pants, ski socks, snow jackets, sweaters and gloves. Once each day and event is written down, plan an outfit to correspond. Do not forget underwear and extra socks for cold destinations and pajamas. Thermal underwear, boots, hats, pocket warmers should be brought if outdoor activities are planned.
- Warm-weather destinations mean less fabric, so clothes take up less space. Don't allow the smaller clothing items to mean more clothes in the bag. Again, map out any events that may require clothing that may not be thought of readily, such as hiking boots, mosquito nets, bathing suits and light fabric clothing. Also, make sure to remember a change of underwear for every day, socks to keep your feet from sweating and hats.
- Some of the most important items are often the ones left at home on the kitchen table as you rush out the door. Make sure to bring money; a change of clothes; identification, like a passport; a copy of medical records and health insurance cards; a phone card and any emergency numbers. Keep them with you, in a purse or a backpack, at all times in case of emergency or your bags getting lost.
