How to Install Basket Weave Ceramic Tiles
- 1). Spread premixed thinset over a 3-feet square area with a trowel in the corner furthest from the entryway. Drag the notched edge of the trowel over the thinset to leave grooves 1/4 inch wide.
- 2). Position the first pair of tiles vertically with tile spacers between the two. Press the tiles into place in the corner of the section.
- 3). Press the second pair of tiles oriented side-to-side or horizontally immediately to the side of the first pair. Install tile spacers into between every adjoining tile to obtain the proper grout lines.
- 4). Continue to install pairs of tiles alternating the orientation from horizontally to vertically along the row and down the length of columns until you complete the entire area. Spread additional thinset to start the next section and continue the pattern until you cover the whole floor with the pattern, properly spaced with tile spacers. Cut tiles as needed with a tile wet saw.
- 5). Allow the thinset to dry according to drying times listed on the container. Remove the tile spacers.
- 6). Spread premixed grout over the gaps between tiles with the flat edge of the notched trowel. Drag the grout into the gaps by holding the trowel at an angle to the floor and pulling it along the grout lines.
- 7). Clean up excess grout from the tiles with a sponge dipped into a bucket of water. Spread additional grout and clean the tiles until you grout the entire floor.Allow the grout to dry according to dryng times listed on the container or a minimum of 72 hours.
