DIY Square Tufted Floor Pillow
- 1). Cut a 3-foot-square piece of 6-inch-thick furniture foam with an electric knife. This should be large enough for a child or an adult to lounge upon comfortably.
- 2). Cut two squares of fabric 3 feet, 2 inches square. Cut four strips of fabric 3 feet, 2 inches long and 8 inches wide. Sturdy fabrics, like muslin and canvas, work best.
- 3). Pin the long strips of fabric together at the short ends, creating a square with the wrong sides facing out. Leave a 1-inch seam allowance at the ends of the fabric.
- 4). Pin the fabric squares to the edges of the strips, again leaving a 1-inch seam allowance. The wrong sides of the fabric must face out.
- 5). Stitch the pieces together, removing pins as you go. Leave one of the edges open and reach into it to turn the cushion cover right-side out.
- 6). Feed the furniture foam into the cover through the open seam. Fold the raw edges of the open seam inward and stitch it closed by hand with a needle and thread.
- 7). Cut a piece of embroidery thread about 12 inches long. Tie a knot in one end and feed the loose end through the eye of an embroidery needle.
- 8). Pass the needle directly through the center of the floor cushion. The knot should catch on the underside of the cushion while the needle should push all the way through the top.
- 9). Slide a button down onto the thread, pressing it against the cushion. Feed the needle back down through the cushion and slide a button onto the underside of the cushion, as well.
- 10
Feed the needle through both buttons once more with the needle ending up on the underside of the cushion. Grip the end of the needle and the knotted end of the cord and pull them tight, indenting the center of the cushion. Tie the ends of the cord together and cut away the excess. The button hides the raw ends of the cord.
