Fish Cake

• One of the easiest ocean-themed cakes to create is a fish cake. You can either create the shape of a fish or you can pipe a fish with a star icing tip onto a regular sheet cake. To shape the cake like a fish, bake two rectangular cakes. Cut the first in half and then cut two equal triangles from that half. Cut the second cake into a flat oval fish shape. How round the shape is will depend upon which type of fish you've chosen. For example, a clown fish is a flatter oval. Place all the pieces together and ice in the color you would see the fish appear in the wild. Use additional colors and a star tip to add any stripes, the eyes and other details.
  
  

Octopus

• Bake a cake in either a round sports ball cake pan or a batter bowl that can go into the oven. Ice the cake in the color of your choice. Next, place unwrapped Twinkies around the round cake to create the legs. Ice the cream-filled cakes the same color as the round cake. Use icing to make eyes and a mouth.
  
  

Wavy Fondant

• If you are good with fondant, you may want to bake a simple round cake and ice it a light blue. Make a basic fondant and dye it dark blue. Roll it out and cut out a 3-inch-wide strip that is the length of the circumference of your cake. Next, cut a wave across the top of the strip that resembles ocean waves. Secure the fondant to the bottom half. The icing already on the cake should be enough to hold it, but if not you can add a dab of icing here and there to the back of the fondant. Stick on some Swedish fish in different colors or goldfish shaped crackers to add interest.
  
  

Candy Seashell Cake

• Bake a cake of any shape and cover with medium blue icing. Looking at the cake from the top, you will decorate the bottom 1/4 of the face of the cake with French candy seashells. Optionally, you can make your own in different colors with a candy mold and colored white chocolates. Trail the seashells over and onto the side of the cake at the bottom.
  
  Next, add green licorice or sour apple straws to create the look of live ocean plants. Scatter Swedish fish around to make it look like they are swimming in the ocean. Use different size candy fish for the most authenticity.
