Southwest Airline Checked Luggage Rules
- All checked luggage are screened. Customers might need to present a form of identification. A name label or luggage tag should be on the outside of the luggage, but it is recommended that one be put inside the luggage as well.
- Southwest Airlines allows two checked items per person for free. A person's third through ninth piece of luggage costs $50, and any bag beyond that costs $110. Both fees are for each item.
- Each bag should be 50 lbs. or less. Any item between 51 and 100 lbs. costs $50 extra.
- Southwest Airlines' liability for misplaced, delayed or damaged baggage is for as much as $3,300 per customer. This applies only to customers who paid for a ticket.
- If baggage is fragile or not packed properly, Southwest Airlines will accept it but will mark it with a label reading "Conditional Acceptance." Southwest is not responsible for further damage to these packages.
