How to Brighten the Exterior Bricks on a Home

    • 1). Clean the brick using the pressure washer. Pressure washers can be rented from a local equipment rental center. Ask the associate for a demonstration on how to use the pressure washer before leaving the store. Spray the brick to remove all dirt and debris and any discoloration from the face of the brick. Don't worry if some sand is displaced from floor pavers with the pressure washer.

    • 2). Apply a paver stripper to the bricks to remove any existing sealant. Allow the stripper to penetrate the seal for about 20 minutes. Pressure wash again to remove the stripper. Allow the bricks to dry. If your bricks have no discoloration or shine, you can skip this step.

    • 3). Replace the sand on floor pavers. Use a broom to sweep play sand, found at most home improvement stores, into the spaces between the bricks. Sweep the excess sand off of the bricks.

    • 4). Apply a sealer to the bricks. A paint sprayer is the best way to apply the brick sealer for even coverage. A sprayer will not disrupt the sand or mortar and will make the job much quicker. If you have not used a sprayer before, use a good quality foam roller to apply the sealer. Apply one to two coats of sealer.

    • 5). Allow the bricks to dry for 24 hours before allowing anyone to walk on the pavers or touch the walls.
