Relationship Advice - How To Get Over A Difficult Breakup

103 3
Like the song says "Breaking up is hard to do".
In fact, it can be downright gut-wrenching.
Will you ever get over it? Of course you will...
but it will take some time and energy on your part.
First, you have to determine exactly what went wrong.
People don't just break up without an apparent reason.
There was a problem somewhere, even it wasn't apparent to you.
You need to sit down and think it through so you can understand exactly what happened.
More importantly, so you can make sure it doesn't happen again in a future relationship.
Once the breakup has happened, move on.
Don't torture yourself trying to second-guess the decision.
It's over and you need to get on with your life without worrying and dwelling over something that is now history.
Chalk it up to experience and learn from it.
During the recovery period it is quite common to contact your ex and try to keep things social.
While this could be a harmless situation, it most often leads to trouble.
If the two of you could get along so well, then you wouldn't have broken up, right? So why would you set yourself up for another round of pain? Break it off...
clean.
That means no calling, no texting, no messages, no anything.
Cut it off and move on.
There are no partial breakups...
only the real, full effect.
Down the road, you may reach a point where you can resume a simple friendship with this person, but this is not the time for that.
Not even close.
You will know when that time comes.
Whatever you do, don't rush it.
You have to wait until there is no emotion tied to the relationship.
If you push the boundaries, you are only setting yourself up for another potential breakup.
While you are going through this process, you need friends.
Surround yourself with people you care about and who care about you.
But stay clear of any mutual friends.
They might be in place to gather information.
You are not necessarily looking for someone to stroke your ego, but you are looking for someone who will listen.
Letting this emotion out now will allow you to heal so much faster and more completely.
Remove anything from your sight that can activate suppressed feelings.
If it conjures up bad memories, it needs to leave.
You cannot adequately heal if you are repeatedly slipping back into the pain.
