Lemon Treatment for Dog Skin Allergies

    Ingredients

    • Gather the necessary ingredients for the rub; these are best purchased from a reputable website or a natural foods store. You will need 8 ounces of aloe vera gel, which is used to soothe damaged skin and has a bitter taste to discourage your dog from licking. You also will need a small bottle of lemon essential oil, also to treat skin allergies and soothe dry skin. You will also need a jar to store the rub in when mixed, and an eye dropper to measure the lemon oil.

    Mixing

    • Put the aloe vera gel into the jar. It should be at room temperature for easier mixing. Take the eye dropper and put 5 drops of the lemon oil into the aloe vera. Stir these thoroughly and refrigerate.

    Preparation

    • Bathe your dog with a soothing shampoo and warm water to be sure her coat is clean. While she is drying, brush her with a soft-bristled brush to stimulate the blood flow to the skin.

    Application

    • Take a small amount of the rub you mixed earlier and begin to massage it into your dog's skin. Do this over your dog's entire body, avoiding the eyes and mouth.

    Repeat

    • Re-apply the rub to your dog's skin every other day. Do not bathe your dog more than twice a month as this can further irritate her skin.

    Warning

    • This is not meant to treat or cure any disease. Always consult with your dog's veterinarian before beginning any at-home treatment. This rub is meant to be used as an at-home remedy in addition to any vet prescribed treatment.
