How to Decorate Wedding Money Boxes
- 1). Stack three shoe boxes or hat boxes of varying heights and widths on top of one another, placing the smallest box on top and the largest box on the bottom. Measure the stack with a yardstick to ensure the total height is at least 15 inches. The top box should be at least 10 inches wide to accommodate extra-wide envelopes.
- 2). Use a pencil to trace the bottom of the middle box onto the lid of the box that will sit on the bottom of the stack. Use a craft knife or box cutter to cut an opening in the lid, 1 inch inside the traced line. Repeat the process with the top box and the lid of the middle box.
- 3). Cut the bottoms off the top and middle boxes, leaving a 1-inch border on each bottom. You'll need that border when you attach the box to the lid beneath it.
- 4). Cut a 1-inch-by-9-inch slit into the lid of the top box, using a craft knife or box cutter. This will be the opening where guests can insert their greeting cards.
- 5). Wrap the outside of the wedding money boxes and lids with wrapping or patterned paper that coordinates with the room decorations. Apply double-stick tape along the edges of each box and lid and smooth the paper onto the sides to stick to the tape. Use scissors to cut the paper to accommodate the holes cut into the lids and bottoms of the boxes. Push and fold the excess paper into the holes and secure it with tape.
- 6). Apply white glue around the top edge of the bottom box and press the lid onto the box so it will permanently stick. Repeat the process with the middle box. Apply double-stick tape around the opening cut into the lid of the bottom box and press the middle box over it to stick it in place. Apply double-stick tape to the opening in the middle box's lid and press and stick the top box onto it.
- 7). Place the lid on the top of the decorated wedding money box. Embellish the layers with items such as silk flowers that coordinate with the bridal bouquet, a pretty handkerchief or ribbon bows affixed with adhesive dots.
